Watching the Speed Limit

Dyer and Butler limits speeds and promotes safer driving

CVP Member Dyer & Butler has engaged on a programme of specifying all of their new vans to be speed limited. This particularly suits their operation as the vans have a high utilisation on motorways.  Reducing speed above 50mph saves fuel and Dyer & Butler expect to see overall savings of between 5 and 10% on limited vehicles.  The speed limiters have been combined with a strategy of utilising small crew vans to transport people to sites, and has had a huge impact on overall fuel spend and CO2 emissions.

In addition to the speed limiters Dyer and Butler have been encouraging more environmental conscious driving styles.  A poster campaign has been started to promote safe and economic driving, these posters are displayed in all site offices and a smaller version is being sent out to all drivers.

By carrying out all these initiatives Dyer & Butler have been able to see real cost benefits to the company and environmental gains to the benefit of all.  These benefits are encouraging them to seek further improvements in the overall management of their fleet.
