Description
This project provides excellent examples of several of the areas of experience identified. In particular close collaboration was essential with the local authority (who shared our offices) and the extensive list of stakeholders. These included the public, utilities companies, emergency services, transport providers. By following the principals of keeping everyone informed and involved we successfully managed their expectations and met our clients objectives including programme and budget management.
Value has been added to the project, in commercial and programme terms, due to the early involvement of the contractor.
Safety issues and minimisation of disruption are paramount on a busy trunk road that is used by 12,000 vehicles per day.
A total of 10.8 km of new bus lane, together with a variety of bus prioritisation measures will have been installed by the end of the project.
Over 1 km of large diameter pipe with large reinforced concrete chambers were constructed under the carriageways to provide attenuation to the drainage system.
Road closures were avoided through careful planning and phasing of the traffic - management scheme and work on public utilities. Close liaison was maintained with the local authorities. All traffic - management was planned, installed and maintained by Dyer & Butler.
The project involved all aspects of civil engineering including road construction, piling, demolition, reinforced concrete retaining walls and structures and the installation of traffic-signal, along with major town centre regeneration, including paving and street furniture.
Multi-way ducts and major underground structures have been installed for BT to enable diversion of existing telecommunication services without any disruption to users.
Adoption of sustainable construction methods was paramount. All planings and other arisings were stockpiled for recycling and re-use in the works.
